‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

‘Want to Feel’ from the EP ‘microdose’ by Soma Holiday

‘Want to Feel’ by Soma Holiday

On this cold Monday, we’re dedicating our time to a band from San Francisco. Soma Holiday has just released their EP ‘microdose’, featuring the opener ‘Want to Feel’.
‘microdose’ by Soma Holiday
This song addresses the pain and loss associated with a miscarriage, drawing from the personal story of lead singer Chelle. It resonates not only with her but also with all those who suffer in silence. ‘Want to Feel’ is about breaking free from silence and suffering, to live life fully again, to embrace it loudly, to feel it deeply, and to heal from the pain, even when it seems impossible.
The recordings for the EP ‘Microdose’ were made by the band in analogue form in a Victorian carriage house in the Lower Haight-Ashbury District of San Francisco. The tapes, which remained unfinished for 20 years, were rediscovered, reworked, finalized, transferred to digital media, and finally released by Tapestry Records.
From the very first note, you can feel the freedom of the 90s. Indie rock still had its fresh spirit and was rapidly evolving. ‘Want to Feel’ has definitely preserved this mood, shining with dreamlike psychedelic nuances, allowing us to experience the creative force that was present then and remains now. The song's creative development, through its lyrics and sound, showcases the unique fusion that makes alternative music so incomparable.
With ‘Want to Feel’ by Soma Holiday, we are transported to this musical era, allowing us to breathe it in, absorb it, and fully experience it. Fantastic music from San Francisco - welcome back, Soma Holiday!
