‘Heartful (EP)’ by Damien Binder
In the last month or weeks of the year, there's usually one more release from the artists and it's often diamonds that they save for last. This was also the case with Damien Binder, a singer and songwriter from Australia. He not only released a single, but also an entire EP. For those who don't know Mr Binder, his style is indie rock with a touch of pop and the mood ranges from deeply emotional to straight forward.
‘Heartful’ is the name of his release, which contains 5 great tracks. The title track, placed at the end of the EP, is a profound reflection on the importance of hope, authenticity and love in life. The song encourages us to keep an open mind, to face challenges and to see love as the central element of life that gives us strength and direction. Musically fantastically realised, this track offers a Damien Binder in top form.
In ‘Crazy’, Damien addresses the universal human experience of self-doubt and the search for meaning and fulfilment. The song urges listeners to accept their uniqueness and courageously go their own way, regardless of challenges and fears. Overall, ‘Crazy’ invites you to celebrate your own uniqueness and to savour life to the full with all its ups and downs. Musically restrained but euphoric indie rock with pop elements.
The next song, ‘Sanctuary’, describes how deeply felt love and mutual understanding can create a sanctuary that goes beyond the material and that in a time when external turbulence and personal challenges are omnipresent. Mid-tempo song with slight end 80s nuances.
In ‘Hang On’, Damien urges us to carry on and keep hope despite the difficulties and fears. Inspiring pop/rock that urges us to continue on our own path and not to be discouraged by setbacks.
‘Won't be leaving’ tells of the central importance of love as a unifying force and source of strength in life and emphasises that true love not only exists in moments of happiness, but also proves itself in times of uncertainty and change.
The aforementioned ‘Heartful’ is the conclusion of a journey in which love and hope take centre stage, and musically, Damien Binder's EP offers perfectly produced indie pop/rock with singer/songwriter qualities, firmly rooted in its Australian flair, with a gentle melancholy reminiscent of Neil Young and a Gang of Youths intensity.
If I had to choose two songs with a heavy heart, they would be ‘Hang on’ and ‘Heartful’, two absolute bangers!
