‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

"Leave It All Behind" by Diving at Dawn

"Leave It All Behind" by Diving at Dawn

It's been over a year since Pete Hobbs, aka Diving at Dawn, has released anything new. But what would Christmas be without Pete? He already wowed us last time, and I can reveal this much: He's doing it again this time.
"Leave It All Behind" by Diving at Dawn
Diving at Dawn, his solo project, epitomizes the DIY ethos, where everything comes from himself. "Leave It All Behind" is the name of his new work, which may not be in the classic Christmas song style, but still fits perfectly into this time of year. The song was written at Christmas when he was snowed in at a remote cottage in the Scottish Highlands.
Unlike the typical Christmas motto "Come together and let's celebrate," "Leave It All Behind" focuses on letting go of the past and finding the courage to look to the future. The song encourages you to embrace the unknown because if you don't try, you won't find anything better. The melody is catchy and sublime, with clear hit qualities. The opening is reminiscent of Keane in 2004, but develops independently and leads to a brilliant climax in the chorus.
With "Leave It All Behind," Diving at Dawn delivers a song that is both melodically and thematically convincing. With its hymn-like character and catchy melody, it is an atmospheric companion that accompanies us into the New Year in the final weeks of December.
