‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

‘Vessel’ by Dexterity

‘Vessel’ by Dexterity

In our search for great songs, this time we found what we were looking for in Ireland. Progressive metal meets alternative rock and serves us subcultural rhythms combined with captivating melodies. They have been enriching Dublin's rock scene for three years now. And now, drum roll please: Their name, Dexterity, have arrived with us.
‘Vessel’ by Dexterity
‘Vessel’, their latest release, is about how our physical forms may be limiting, but at the same time give us the opportunity for infinite self-transformation and expression. This reflects a fundamental tension between the limitations of the body and the infinity of the mind.
True freedom and identity emerge from within and cannot be defined solely by external form or norms. We often sense that we are different without knowing the exact parameters of this otherness. It shows how our self-perception and finding our identity is a constant process of growing and changing.
They translated this theme into sheet music and used it to create ‘Vessel’. The opening is combative, loud and raw, but the song soon transforms into a melody that makes you feel safe and cries out for freedom at the same time. The entire realisation shows the emotional world of the subject matter. The mood expressed is dramatic and melancholic. Front woman Sarah Dexter throws herself into the floods in a great musical performance and refers to the idea that our human existence only takes place in limited vessels and that the deeper truth lies in the transformation and renewal of human identity.
