‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

"Hometown" by Emergency Break

"Hometown" by Emergency Break

The name Emergency Break is synonymous with straightforward, no-frills, yet detailed and melodic Brit pop/rock. Ear candies of the rockier kind, offering both musical and lyrical depth. This time, they have slowed down the tempo a bit and delivered "Hometown," a ballad that takes us into the world of frontman Leo Gerchen.

The six Londoners (Leo Gerchen - Vocals, Joe Adams - Lead Guitar, Ewan Hawkins - Bass, James Brooks - Drums, Oran Docker - Rhythm Guitar, and Finlay McLachlan - Synth, Keys, Percussion) captivate with balladic indie rock that stimulates the mind.
The content revolves around self-reflection, analyzing past actions, and recognizing one's mistakes and the resulting consequences. This introspective process is characterized by an emotional confrontation with oneself and the relationships that have shaped one's life. The confrontation with the past and memories is emphasized by atmospheric symbolism, creating a feeling of inner conflict between what once was and the present reality, which no longer seems to harbor the happiness of the past. The piece was inspired by Leo Gerchen's move and year-long stay in New York.
The musical execution is marked by deep passion and emotionality, given enormous intensity by Leo's interpretation. The wonderfully captured sound of the guitars is practically the signature of Emergency Break, radiating endless energy. The rhythm section, comprising drums and bass, is reminiscent of the early '90s, ensuring that a ballad becomes a pulsating, poetic sound painting.
Emergency Break is a band that inspires not just for the moment but for eternity. Once again, "Hometown" is a release that captivates me and won't let go for a long time!
