‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

‘The Long Night’ by Fake Plastic

‘The Long Night’ by Fake Plastic

Loneliness, disillusionment, and the inevitability of difficult times are the themes of Fake Plastic's latest single, ‘The Long Night,’ released a few days ago.
As their second single, the Hamburg band provides a further taster of the upcoming album ‘Awake in the Night.’ It also criticizes the insignificance of material wealth and superficial pursuits, while painting a picture of isolation and loneliness that contrasts with the desire to flee from challenges or seek help. ‘The Long Night’ paints a bleak picture of life's struggles and the challenges of finding meaning and connection in a world that often seems cold and indifferent. But it also calls us to fight, reminding us of the importance of resilience and the need to face our fears and insecurities head-on.
Musically, Till Werkmeister (guitar, vocals), Peter Küchere (drums, backing vocals), and Robert Post (bass) deliver handmade alternative rock that sometimes tends towards grunge, but also reminds me of early The Police from time to time in the verses. The opening is characterized by passion and immediately shows that they are masters of their craft: the guitar sets the tone, the drums are powerful and provide plenty of pressure, the bass keeps them on a leash and gives free rein to their musical urges. An outstanding solo, together with the vocal performance, rounds off an extremely successful piece of post-punk-oriented indie rock.
With their new single, Fake Plastic manages to strike an excellent balance between dirty and new wave rock, which is stylistically reminiscent of past decades and yet sounds extremely fresh. Fake Plastic's 'The Long Night', an indefatigable piece of raw poetry in the contemporary rock firmament.
