‘BELLA MORiTALIA’ (Independent Music Film) by Lisa Roderer & Chris Mummelthey
‘BELLA MORiTALIA’
... is an impressive journey through the weathered heart of Italy, where time lies like a gentle veil of oblivion over the dilapidated palazzi and villas. Lisa Roderer and Chris Mummelthey have once again joined forces to capture the shadowy world, which exists almost in parallel, in notes and images.
While ‘Lights Shining Deadly’ came across as a harsh, dark storm, ‘BELLA MORiTALIA’ is more of a melancholy symphony. Lisa and Chris' cinematic and sonic odyssey through deserted places in Italy transforms these images into a ghostly landscape reminiscent of a melancholy serenade of decay. Her camera acts as a kind of familiar guest, inviting the abandoned places to the last dance in a morbid manner, while Chris' soundtracks evoke an acoustic melancholy that blows through the ruins like a whispering wind.
‘BELLA MORiTALIA’ is a visualised concept album that draws the viewer into its dark, enchanting world like a gentle embrace. The title itself plays with Italy's beauty and aesthetic decay, like a flower blooming in the shade.
Those who venture on this journey are engulfed by the graceful sadness of what they see and hear, like a lost soul plunging into the abyss of memories. Every scene and every sound becomes a ghostly whisper that echoes softly and forges an inseparable link to the ephemeral. With ‘BELLA MORiTALIA’, Lisa Roderer and Chris Mummelthey have undoubtedly created an artistically valuable work that is well worth discovering.
