‘I Wish Humans Were Made In A Factory...’ by Zachary Mason
With almost every new release he raises the bar and convinces more and more music lovers of his skills. Zachary Mason and his best song to date for me (I've probably used this in relation to Zachary many times before) ‘I Wish Humans Were Made In A Factory...’ is the name of his new release, which has already burnt itself deep into my ear canals on the first listen.
In terms of content, the song reflects a deep disillusionment and intense pain about the realities of life. The recurring themes of anger, desperate relationships and the desire for a standardised, less flawed existence point to a longing for simplicity and perfection that often remains unattainable in reality.
Zachary Mason's 'I Wish Humans Were Made In A Factory...' is all about the existentialist view. He sees human life as full of flaws and pain. He uses the idea that people are like products being made in a factory to show how we want things to be predictable and under control, even though life often throws us curveballs.
The ironic tragedy lies in the human condition, the striving for an idealised state that ultimately remains unattainable due to the inevitability of suffering and disorder in real life. Musically, he moves in the genre of alternative rock and lets his talent shine through George Harrison-esque sounds, which revitalise the piece again and again and thus capture the longing he describes in this song in notes.
Zachary Mason and ‘I Wish Humans Were Made In A Factory...’ or the desperate dance of longing, in which we yearn for a flawless existence but find ourselves in the chaotic labyrinth of life, where every step is lined with the bitter thorns of reality. (Bass played by Little Big Town's Bass Player, John Thomasson)
