‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division

‘The Journey’ - The Octopus Division In ‘The Journey,’ a sonic mosaic unfolds that—permeated by neon-soaked synth pads and a melody that feels like memory—is less a song than a spiritual compass. The time that relentlessly pursues us, according to ‘Time keeps chasing us every day’, is not portrayed as an enemy, but as a constant touchstone that we face with our heads held high: ‘ We won't let the rain wash us away’ . Photography, here metaphorically as a key to the past, opens doors to moments that seem long gone but live on within us. The chorus – a kind of collective mantra – describes not just a journey, but an intertwining of stories that support each other. The garden in which hopes take root becomes a symbol of what must be nurtured in order to flourish. And when ‘ our songs have lost a note or two ’, it is not a flaw, but proof of lived depth. A song that is not meant to be heard, but to be lived through – like a familiar glance at an old photo album by candlelight. b...

A Lament for Existence: ‘The Flesh of Birds’ by E.G. Phillips

‘The Flesh of Birds’ by E.G. Phillips

The new release ‘The Flesh of Birds’ by E.G. Phillips, one of our favourite composers, is an astute and sarcastic reflection on human relationships and the human condition.
With subtle irony, he illuminates the absurdities of life and highlights the contrasts between beauty and decay, hope and disappointment, instinct and intellect.
Like an archaeologist, he uncovers moments of apparent harmony and their inexorable decay, questioning the importance of possessions and relationships, as well as the fundamental nature of survival in a world oscillating between abundance and scarcity. In the end, he leaves us in a state of resignation and heightened awareness of the duality of existence.
The musical framework is once again his unmistakable Americana cello-folk style, which, like the lyrics, gets straight to the heart of the matter. E.G. Phillips once again proves to himself and to us just how absurd our existence often is.  Dive in and question your path.
Are you truly alive, or merely part of a bizarre circus travelling through the world? That is a question only you can answer - the bird can't help you (anymore)!
